This was cute and sweet if not a bit predictable. I listened to the audiobook and thought the narrators did a good job. I'll continue with the series because I enjoyed the writing and I'm curious about the characters in the other books.

DNF at 30%. Normally for book club reads I'll stick it out, if only to be able to bitch about it in more detail at the next meeting, but I'm sorry, I hate this.

To start, I don't buy a damn bit of the setup. For one thing, unless she's got some kind of actual physical deformity (which she is not described as having) or straight up doesn't groom herself or something, it seems pretty unbelievable that so many people would agree that she's just objectively ugly. People have different preferences in what features they think look good. I might believe her being insecure about her looks, especially since she was bullied about them in high school, but for the entire rest of the world of grown adults (including her own family!) to look at her and just agree that yeah, she's an uggo? The vast majority of people just aren't obsessively rating the hotness of everyone around them. This all comes off as so petty and shallow, and the narration and other characters constantly reinforce it, and it's just gross.

Also, instead of telling her brothers to fuck off and letting them think she's had a one night stand (because that's something a GROWN ASS WOMAN totally isn't allowed to do, for some damn reason) she instead lies off the top of her head to her mob-adjacent brothers that she's bringing her cop boyfriend to Grandma's 90th next month — HOW IS THAT BETTER?!! And the entire set-up to get Ford into her house is fucking incredible. 1) As far as Cop-Boss knows, the only connection Ford and Gina have is that they were at the same wedding and got pranked with a Kiss Cam. News flash: that's not an actual connection. They are strangers. To his knowledge, they've never had so much as a single conversation. 2) If they did have some kind of known romantic connection, he absolutely wouldn't be allowed to be in charge of investigating the dead body found in her house. 3) I'm pretty sure you don't get to stay in your house when it's an active crime scene, and 4) I'm definitely sure it's not acceptable police procedure to have the investigating officer just insist to MOVE IN WITH YOU while the investigation is going on, y'know, just in case. And 5) the fact that EVERYBODY ALREADY KNOWS HE'S A COP ought to make it pretty hard for him to gather any information on the sly, dontcha think?!! Brilliant plan, there, chief. I can also already see this is going to build up to some overwrought "yoU LIED TO ME" conflict and I am just not in the damn mood.

Also, can they please have JUST ONE conversation that's not constantly interrupted by narration of them gazing lustfully at each other's bodies in exquisite detail? There's supposed to be a plot here, not just softcore porn.

I threw in the towel at the argument over him interrupting her while she was working. It was soooooo contrived. Women's work? Who tf in the year of our lord 2020 still says that?!! Also, if she were any good at her job, the clients wouldn't have been waffling over envelope colors in her office for half an hour. That's when you offer some guidance and if they don't take it you say "let's put a pin in this" and move on. No wonder she can't get her business off the ground. (Also also, Ford's grand plan to help them decide was to barge in and say both options were nice? AGH EVERYONE HERE IS A MASSIVE IMBECILE.) Life's too short for this nonsense; I'm out.

I actually read the 2nd book first but I can say I really liked this one. A lot more actually.

I just can’t take any more comments about how the heroine is ugly from almost every character including the heroine herself. Bring in her two thug brothers and am I supposed to admire them for standing up for their sister? For being overprotective brothers while they’re obviously headed to hotel rooms for the exact same thing? They’re criminals. I guess I’m also supposed to worship the oh so good-looking cop that doesn’t care what she looks like because there’s just something about her. And then there’s the obvious storyline of the chief wanting said cop to use her to go after the criminals. I can already see where that is going. I don’t want to waste any more time on this.

I found this to be poorly written with a storyline that was lacking. It seemed more like a story for children if one ignored the sexual content raging through it. Thankfully I didn't expect much when I picked it up; it was a quick read while I was waiting for an appointment otherwise I'd have been dismayed at the waste of time.

Super sweet, and it's nice to have a main character who isn't conventionally attractive (I like that all of the MCs in this series are unconventional). I love how Ford's attraction to Gina is earned and believable. Solid.

The timeline was funky and out of order or elongated at times. Which is a pet peeve of mine.

Plus so much is put on about her nose. She has issues with it. Major issues, yet at the end she states she's happy with her nose and doesn't want surgery. That doesn't fly with 90% of the book of her over self conscious about it. It too doesn't jive. If from the beginning she was self assured about it, fine, but she wasn't. The whole book she wasn't. So that way of thinking didn't fit.

This was a cute story, and I loved the heartigan and Luca families. However, I found the audible narration to be lacking, and it sometimes distracted me from the cuteness of the story. That said, I really like Avery, Flynns, writing, and stories, and the humor that is infused with them and this did actually make me laugh out loud once or twice. I will be continuing on with the series.

Cute story

This is such a cute story! I loved watching him fall for her and seeing him try to do what he thought was best to protect her. I loved her reactions to the decisions he made and watching them get their HEA.

My first Avery Flynn and it hooked me!
