There is a reason this book is well liked and seen as a classic by many.
The writing and narrative style are very much outside what I am used to and oh boy did I have to slow down my pace to make sure I was getting the whole picture. The last chapter really gives us an insite to why it’s written this way as Bilbo states he may just write it all down as a memoir. Its at its core an epic, a bunch of what could be short stories strung together to make a grand adventure.
Having seen the movies, my favorite part was seeing how well they matched. The precise following of book events the movies have in some areas and the stuff the added in was interesting to see

Pretty good and holds up quite well to what I remember as a kid enjoying. I really enjoyed the sort of overview narration of the book, skipping over the monotonous parts of the journey as compared to the films

J R R Tolkien has created a vast world with beautiful imagery and lovable characters. It’s witty, fun, and keeps the reader engaged and interested to know what happens next. I adore this book and am excited to read the rest!!
I took a break while reading it for the first time, so I started listening to it on audiobook as a refresher, until I caught up to where I’d left off in my physical copy. However, Phil Dragash’s audiobook with the soundscape composed by Howard Shore HOOKED me and I couldn’t stop listening. They do a phenomenal job at bringing out what’s beautiful about Tolkien’s writing, and I immediately wanted to listen to the next one. It’s on Spotify under the show name Roads Go Ever On and I highly recommend, if you want to hear such a great story come to life 🥰

I listened to it on audio and read it between the second and third Lord of the Rings.
I remember being in 6th grade and my friends had to read this for their book group and they all said it was boring. I guess if you are a 6th grader I could see it, but I was scared ever since of reading it. Now that I have, I have determined my classmates were crazy. This book is great and I recommend it.

I really loved this book, I loved the adventure and I loved all 13 of the dwarves. Although the characters weren't very built and all kind of blended together, I did enjoy them all the same and I found myself relating to Bilbo in multiple instances. I think the story and the world-building was very well-done and the only thing i found myself wishing for was more character development and more greif over the death at the end. although Thorin's death did make me sad, it didn't impact me as much as I wished it would. I saw these movies in theatres when they first came out and the death of Thorin, Fili, and Kili still makes me cry because they were a lot more dramatic in the film than it was in the book and i just found myself wishing i felt closer to the characters
