An inspiring and realistic book. Thomas is a good writer, no doubt - characters are well developed, the story is engaging, and she tackles a difficult subject without apology. And while it crops up in some secondary characters, there's little dogmatism at work here. The main characters are well aware of the complexity of the situation we all find ourselves in, regardless of race or income or whatever other demographic.
