This was a phenomenal book. I read it in just a few days because I couldn't wait to see what happened next. Sadly, it is such an accurate view of societal problems ... but written in a way that educates while entertaining.

This book made me think a lot. Very well done!!! Hopefully once I've processed this some more I can come back and write a real review

Heartfelt, heartbreaking read that pulls you in to the mind of a self-aware and courageous young woman having to deal with devastating events that push and challenge her. Easily something I hope every young person reads.
emotional sad fast-paced

May be my favorite book of 2017. Going on my all-time favorites list for sure. If you like a listen, the narrator was fabulous. But Angie Thomas' voice will stand out no matter how you read it. These people are the neighbors I grew up with, and the relationships in Starr's family rang so beautifully true. Real people with lifetimes of dealing with institutional racism, a system rigged against them, and violence at the hands of many, including those tasked with law enforcement. I miss Starr and her family already.

I'm writing this review months later because I keep thinking back to Star, Kahlil, and the other characters in this book. Police brutality, murder, crime and gangs, incarceration, and so much else keeps coming up this year and I find myself returning to this story as reference.

Wow. This is an amazing book. I laughed and I cried.
