Lovely snapshot of bookshops around the world at a time when they seemed to be threatened by digital alternatives.

Wonderful book. Truly a recommendation to all who love bookshops, books and stories about both of those. :)

This book is ideal for people who live, breathe, eat, sleep books (like me). If you feel like an oddball who obsessively loves their books, then you will run into many-a kindred spirit here. This books tells the stories of book people who run bookshops with a passion that seems very incongruent with a world that values only technology and nothing else much. Campbell gives an overview of the bookshops she has visited and the people (and sometimes animals) who inhabit these lovely places. The only sour point for me: there is a lot of detail about bookshops in Europe and North America but not so much in places like Latin America, Asia and Africa (these are covered in short sections). Still, this book was a sheer pleasure to read.

This wasn't quite what I expected but it was still interesting. And also I now have a number of titles to add to my TBR list

E-readers are taking over, but we will persevere and bookshops will continue to exist, because they're magical places: the book. This could be a useful guide, if you're looking for independent bookshops in the UK. A webpage would be more convenient, though. Also, I don't live in the UK.
