Another sad but beautiful story. I was sucked in from the very beginning and could not listening to this book. Brian’s narration of Tristian was great. I could heard the agony in his voice which broke my heart every time. Definitely moving on to book 2.

There are more cohesive thoughts in my vlog, but I enjoyed this overall. It was my first Brittainy C. Cherry, but definitely won't be my last. Both Elizabeth and Tristan lost their spouses in car accidents (Tristan his son as well) and are having trouble coping and moving on. Elizabeth and her five-year-old daughter, Emma, move back to the house she shared with her late husband and comes to find Tristan has since moved in next door and earned quite a reputation for himself with the townsfolk as the town asshole. But after hitting his dog, Zeus, with her car Elizabeth discovers that the rumors don't tell the whole story.

This book had a nice balance of humor and angst. Tristan's relationship with Emma was adorable. And I loved Elizabeth's best friend, Faye, who was often the comic relief with her antics and inappropriate comments. Personally, I was hoping she'd get a story of her own one day. What dropped this a star for me was the character of Tanner. He is Steven's (Elizabeth's husband) best friend and Emma's godfather. Upon first meeting he feels like a likeable character that had the potential to be turned into a competitor for the heroine's affections. But then there is a plot twist where that is thrown out the window that I'm still not sure how I feel about. But, I am glad I finally pulled this one off my shelf and will be continuing with the series.

Tropes:
neighbors
grumpy (hero) x sunshine (heroine)
single mom

CW:
death of spouse
attempted suicide

While reading, I debated my rating. I knew at the very least it was a 4.5. But do I go up or down. Then, I'd read some more and something would happen and I'd go, "yep, a 5!" And it just kept on happening. Solid 5⭐️ from me. The characters were just great in this book. They were funny, sweet and some were dicks! I dived straight into the next one!

Touching, heart-wrenching love story

This beautiful story about two lost souls finding hope and strength as they journey towards love really touched my heart.

Oh, this book was soooo close to 5⭐️ for me. The characters were beautiful and tortured and the story was wonderful… until the plot morphed into something it didn’t need to. I’ll still recommend this book but it lost some depth for me at the end.

Talk about a book that fucks with your emotions!

I always say I want a book that will fuck me up emotionally and whew! This one definitely did!
There’s so much hurt, pain, anger, and tragedy that permeates the pages of their story and you feel it in your heart when you read. You feel what they feel so intensely that when you feel their love it makes the hurt and pain worth it.

Second chance of romance, love after tragedy, single parent romance, small town romance. It is all of these things and more!

Tristan and Elizabeth had a million reasons why they shouldn’t be together and a million more on why they should. Many things and people try to keep them apart but their love wins in the end!

Why? Why in the world did I wait so long to read this? I put The Air He Breathes on my shelf over a year ago, and maybe I was hesitant to read it because I thought Cherry's other novel, Loving Mr. Daniels, was just average. But this book was exquisite! Cherry's prose is utterly haunting. I cannot even fathom how many lines I marked in this book. Personally, I find that realistic books are written in a very straightforward manner, and they lack the beauty that you can find in books in other genres, but heavens, I'm in love with this book and its writing style. Once I started, I couldn't stop. The characters, they're so broken and my heart shattered as we unwind their pasts and the plot twists.

I highly 100% recommend this book, especially if you're a fan of Colleen Hoover's Ugly Love or Mia Sheridan's Archer's Voice! Ah, I just want to go back and do it all over again!

You don't have to be good all the times. It's okay to be hurt sometimes. It's okay to feel lost like you're wandering around in the dark. It's the bad days that make the good ones so much better."

I really enjoyed this, such a fun and sappy read. It did got me teary at times (Honestly, I'm just a big baby!). Some really wise advices were also thrown in there.

Quick Summary: Basically our main characters are Elizabeth who lost her husband and then there's Tristan who also have lost his son and wife. And both of our character are completely broken and lost due to the lost of their loved one. And somehow, fate brings them together. At first, they used each other to remember the people they have lost, then of course they fall in love. There's some twists and turns that show that it was not just a coincidence that they met each other, it was like their path have crossed to many time before and they were really fated for each other. Yea, it could be like an eye rolling kind of thing how they're really fated for each other, but hey it was still a fun read. It feels like a Nicholas Spark's book, but funnier with no filter.

"I want to know where you go when you get lost in your mind. I want to know what makes you shout in your dreams. I want to see the darkness in you that you fight daily to keep hidden... Show me the part of you that you try to keep buried. Show me where it hurts the most. I want to see your soul."

"I though I had more time, but sometimes tomorrow never comes and you're only left with the memories of yesterdays."

I love how Brittany Cherry showed us the really dark and broken side of our characters, one fighting one's own demons. The life after losing the people you love, who were your world.
