This book was all-around just a lot of fun. It was exciting and a bit heart-wrenching and definitely heart-warming. I'm excited to finish the series.

Re-read~! I totally remembered this book differently hahah, but I still really enjoyed it.
My biggest complaint? a pale skinned person teaching a different culture on how to live better -- strangely enough, this happened in the 3rd book, the same book it happened in the Song of the Lioness series. While I think it wasn't as bad as the whitesplaining in the Song of the Lioness, because mostly Daine was trying to explain they shouldn't have slaves -- which I thought was okay, but the other issues I think could have been handled better.

This was my favourite as a child. Daine's rage is perfection. On reread though I'm so not comfortable with her and Numairs budding relationship.

As this novel widens the map and expands the pantheon of the Immortals series, there’s a lot to appreciate. It’s an enjoyable return for beloved characters and a memorable introduction of others.

Are the racial politics arguably somewhat questionable? I mean, yes. Do I love the age gap between Daine and Numair as the plot inches them closer to romance? I do not. Does this book hit all the right nostalgia notes for me anyway? Sure does!
