Emperor Mage

Tamora Pierce

The third book in the IMMORTALS series takes Daine to a new locale, where, as one would expect, things aren't nearly as simple as they are supposed to be. As a member of Tortall's diplomatic envoy, she finds herself involved in politics, both human and magical.

Pierce does a nice job of opening up the world, and showing Daine's reactions to a new culture. There's action and characterization enough to keep readers interested, and also some very funny sections to keep it from being too intense for younger readers.

As one would expect, not every storyline is wrapped up completely, but it's a satisfying read.

This might be the strongest one in the Immortals series. If I had read this as a kid, I would have been completely obsessed.

It's now proven: I still can't get enough Tortall in my life.

adventurous inspiring

Too much human drama and not enough animals to get the 5 star ranking of the first two, but still a solid fun YA fantasy novel.
