This is probably my favorite of the four Daine books, simply because I like the setting, and the creativity of the Graveyard Hag story line. There's some uncomfortable "eastern cultures are all slave owners or primitive tribes-people" vibes here, and I'm not sure what to make of that in a fantasy book... the Alanna series didn't seem to give off that vibe. Setting that aside, I like the character work here and I feel like Daine and Numair both really come into their own as characters.
Intricate, well-paced, and beautifully-written. This has got to be one of the best books I've read in a while. Pierce is a master storyteller and world-builder. And Daine is kind of becoming my favorite heroines. She's strong, determined, and diligent. She does what she needs to do to make life better for those around her. What a great character and series.
Loved this book it's my favourite of the quartet! Fulle review :https://littlepandareads.wordpress.com/2018/06/23/emperor-mage-review/
