Read as an audiobook as part of a '12 Books Recommended by 12 Friends in 2023' challenge. I really enjoyed this dip into the world of English upper class on a jaunt living on the island of Corfu for a while during the pre-WWII period. Gentle comedy that pokes fun at itself and keeps everyone in on the absurdity of situations. I'll be interested to read the rest of the series.
I enjoyed taking a peak into Durrell’s early years. His family sounds like they were quite the characters, and he writes about them comically and lovingly. It’s wild to read about how a wealthy family like his lived during this period. Exploring the outdoors, collecting wildlife, and having your tutor sound ideal for me to learn!

Lettura discreta. Ne ho apprezzate molto alcune parti, meno altre. Aveei pregerito più natura e meno famiglia, perché i familiari li ho trovati tutti detestabili, e forse anche meno ameddoti e storielle e qualche descrizione di posti in piü. Bellissime le descrizioni, i paesaggi descritti in modo incredibile, ma purtroppo la passione e l’interesse del poccolo Gerry per insetti e simili non me l’ha fatto molto amare: troppe descrizioni dettagliate, al limite del voltastomaco…
