Slightly Dangerous

Mary Balogh

4.06 AVERAGE

Wulfric's story. Feeling a little lonely with all his siblings happily married off Wulfric accepts an invitation to a house party and discovers a woman who isn't afraid of him and has no problem telling him no.

Rounded up I enjoyed Christine, but found parts of the story creepy.

I was hoping for more from this book, but it was an enjoyable enough way to wrap up this highly entertaining series.

I am a big fan of Ms. Balogh and her Slightly series is one of her best. The best of the series is EASILY Slightly Dangerous (the weakest is Slightly Married IMO). To truly appreciate this book you must read all of the other books in the series. Without having done that I don't think you get a real picture of what Wulfric is about. He is a complex character presented in a one dimensional way in previous books unless you are really paying attention. He is a man with the weight of many responsibilities on him. There are few other romance novels that come close to this one (Suddenly You by Lisa Kleypas is one of them) in how much I adored the hero and heroine. There were no games played and they were almost always upfront with each other in how they felt. I have read this book at least 3 times and I never grow tired of it. You love Christine and her curls (note to Ms. Balogh that curls are NOT meant to be brushed unless you want to look like lightening struck you...I know) and how much she loves life. You love Wulfric for how much he loves those in his care. After reading the first in the series I almost stopped as I didn't love Eve and Aiden but stick with this series. Each book gets better than the previous one and ends with this jewel.

I've been waiting for Wulf's book basically since I read Simply Married, and it did not disappoint!!! For the first half, I probably would've given it 4.5 stars, because I was really, really enjoying it, but I wasn't quite head over heals for it. But from basically the point where
Spoilerhe visits Christine to propose to her for real, and she lets him know all the reasons why she would never marry him
to the end, I had a huge grin on my face, and the book left me feeling so happy, that I had to give it 5 stars. I especially adored all the parts in the 2nd half where
SpoilerWulf is trying to show Christine that he can love and isn't just the cold, unfeeling Bewcastle. Granted, that's basically the entire 2nd half of the book. But it was just adorable!!! HE JUMPED INTO A LAKE. My other favorite thing was the two scenes we got to see with all the Bedwyn siblings and their spouses minus Wulf, where they're discussing setting up Wulf with Christine. SO AMAZING. I was thrilled that we got to see their perspective about who would be a good match for Wulf, and them realizing that Wulf did have feelings for Christine.
I also greatly enjoyed Christine; she was a wonderful match for Wulf. Really, this book was just entirely delightful!!! I'm sad there are no more books in this series waiting for me, but getting through this series was an incredibly satisfying experience, and I'm so glad I decided to check it out!

I’ve read this twice and I’ll probably read it again someday. What an excellent way to end the saga. Very Pride & Prejudice. Christine reminds of Sound of Music’s Maria. Wulfric’s monologue at the dovecote?!?!?!? 😭🩵

Also we all know a ‘Justin’ in our lives.

Oh my goodness I loved this book. Easily one of my favourite romances EVER. Baby, THIS is a love story okay!!! No one gets them like I do.

I cried and laughed so much. Genuinely one of the best love stories ever written. The characters had so much depth! I’ll be thinking about this book forever.

A good palate cleanser of a historical romance. Good intrigue amidst the progression of the story. Might read others in the series.
