This truly embodied enemies to lovers perfectly. Wulfric was such a pompous prick and Christine was pure sunshine and joy, and yet they were completely made for each other. I loved watching Wulfric soften because of her, and for her. What a lovely Pride and Prejudice retelling!
Pride and Prejudice coded story. It caught me. At times their emotions were very confusing, but I assume that was the intention, since they admitted later that they were confused themselves.

This book is probably the best in the series, very close with Freyja’s book because I find her delightful. You really get the full payoff of Wulfric’s character development having read the previous 5 siblings stories. Plus a lot of fun cameos from the other siblings. Nicely wrapped up the Bedwyn saga.

Slightly Dangerous was my favorite book of the Bedwyn Saga. Throughout the series, I was anxiously awaiting Wulfric’s chance to find his own love and happiness after dedicating himself to his family and his ducal role for so long.
While we did get to see Wulfric’s happy ending,I do wish we got to see more of it than we did. I would’ve preferred the HEA to happen at around 75%-80%, and then gotten to experience how the ton and the Bedwyn family reacted to the betrothal.
All in, I really enjoyed the Bedwyn Saga, and I came to love the Bedwyn family.

Wulfric is the type of male love interest I'm always saying I want- stoic, cold and a bit uptight. (Why does that appeal to me? No idea, it's just something I've come to accept about myself.) Wulfric is all that, in spades; in fact, it's the whole conflict of the novel. So why wasn't I head-over-heels for him? Maybe because he seemed less confused or surprised to realize he was falling in love (a personal favorite) and more like he was resentful. Christine's realization that he loved Wulfric was a bit hurried in order to tie up the ending. so yeah, this was a nice romance, but I expected more. specifically, more swooning on my part.
4.5 stars
I dived into this one because there was a deluge of recommendations on FB that this book was an absolute classic must read. I was a bit dubious upon reading the blurb but still decided to jump in. And in final, I do not regret it because I can see why this book shined for so many readers. It was not an easy book to love because MB's excellent prose with its firmly-entrenched historical romance voice can nevertheless seem stuffy to read, the moreso over the many pages of this big book. But, if you allow yourself to be touched by the magic of her pen, as I did, then, it can only become a beloved read.
MB's pen in this book was honestly just *chef's kiss*. So deep, rich and complex, with the right doses of wit. Her characters, main and secondary, were so vibrant with tangible layers. Her Wulfric was not easy to love but I really fell for him by the end of the book. Her Christine was fresh and just lovable. And their chemistry... not only steamy, but real, full of feelings and so dazzling.
I did not fail to see her homage throughout the plot to [b:Pride and Prejudice|84979|Pride and Prejudice|Jane Austen|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1487841905l/84979._SY75_.jpg|3060926] mainly, and but also to [b:Sense and Sensibility|37553|Sense and Sensibility|Jane Austen|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1168969485l/37553._SY75_.jpg|2809709]. And I loved it. It was impossible to not see the paralells between Wulfric and Christine's courtship woes and the ones of Darcy and Elizabeth, but MB outdid herself in twisting all the tropes into her very own original story in grand style. And to top it off in stride with palpable passion and sensuality that were amiss from the chaste [b:Pride and Prejudice|84979|Pride and Prejudice|Jane Austen|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1487841905l/84979._SY75_.jpg|3060926]. Kudos really, MB!
I'm gonna say 3.5 stars rounded up for this pseudo 'Pride and Prejudice' tale.
There's even a proposal that was a little too similar to Darcy's.
Christine was widowed several years ago and at 29, feels she will never marry again. The way her marriage ended has soured her for marriage AND for town life.
Wulfric is a Duke who has been taught the grave consequence and importance of staying emotionless since he was 12. After his childhood was cut short, his only source of joy was his siblings and now they have all married and moved away (he is 36). Even his long term mistress, Rose is gone. She died 6 months ago and although he didn't love her, she was a friend he could depend on.
So out of loneliness he accepts an invitation to a house party where he meets Christine. He thinks she's a maid (and not even a good one) and she thinks he's full of himself.
Over the 2 weeks of the house party he starts to see her differently and is drawn to her like a moth to flame. She gets mad every time she gets near him.
But that's because she has her hang ups from her first marriage.
...and yet she can't stop looking at him when they are in the same room.
I gotta say, the reason this isn't 5 stars is because I got tired of Christine always being so coldly scornful of Wulfric. She wanted him to be the aloof snobby aristocrat she assumed him to be from the moment she met him. She certainly doesn't want to have feelings for him. I mean how can she? They are like oil and water. She really did say some dispicable things to him, and even though she apologizes eventually, I still thought she should have groveled more.
The book ends up being Wulfric chasing Christine in the hopes of convincing her to marry him.
There's a villain who is the kind of villain I abhor the most. The kind who gaslights his victims.
But Wulf saves Christine from him and even still she pushes him away.
It was so frustrating!
I did really like the MCs and their HEA and epilogue were sweet and satisfying. I just wish Christine could have been a little nicer to Wulf. For those who have read the other books in the series, the Bedwyns (Wulf's family) all show up in the second half for cameos.
Safety is good,

Wulf has only ever had sex with his long term mistress Rose. And then he and Christine have sex while at the house party. Christine had only ever slept with her husband before meeting Wulf.

I am SO sad this series is over, but it really couldn’t have ended on a better note. The yearning!!!!! I did find myself getting a little…annoyed? I guess? at Christine at parts, but otherwise I really, really enjoyed this. And I was very happy to see that both Christine and Wulfric got what they ultimately wanted in the end.

All the passion, chemistry and yearning I was missing from the last two installments in this series has finally found me! I could not see the eldest (and my favourite) Bedwyn settled with someone more deserving. Charming Miss Christine is up there with my most beloved heroines imagined by Balogh, maybe preceeding even Freyja and Judith! No one does yearning quite like Wulfric Bedwyn--he reminds me a bit of Mr. Darcy maybe. WHAT A PERFECT END TO A FANTASTIC SAGA!!!!
