The second book in the series definitely kept my interest and moved the story along at a good pace. I didn't know what I thought I knew from the first book, which is great! On to the last book in the series!

This series really suffers from the vagaries of time. It now comes off as patronising and racist. The story is interesting and there are some surprises but the taint of being written by a white woman ‘who once visited the Middle East is all through the narrative

I feel like I am being generous in giving this 3 stars, so I don't think I will be completing the series.

My main issue with this series is that is feels so much like a romance novel, with some slight elements of fantasy. Yes, there are demons and Goddesses, but frankly? The only reason I can really tell one from the other is that I am told that the demon is bad, and the Goddess is good. The main thrust of the plot is political and romantic in nature.

I wasn't disappointed by the sequel to the first Percheron book which I loved so much - the plot becomes more technical so the prose is naturally more drawn out, but narrowly avoids a feeling of middle book syndrome. I wasn't as thrilled by it as with 'Odalisque', but the characters continue their authentic developments and there are additional plot twists; some of which are resolved and others that only deepen. Suffice to say I'm pretty excited about reading book three - which I don't currently own, so in the meantime I'll be choosing something completely different.

Definitely a mid-series read, this tells the story of Odalisque Ana and her finding a place in the Harem of Boaz. She has to watch herself as there are forces who can see that she has charisma and intend to ensure that she is controled.

She thinks her true love is dead but he isn't he's recovering from the dreadful punishment he has. His past is coming to reap it's revenge and he has to do what he can to survive.

Meanwhile the demon is finding his place, and trying to discover who has reincarnated as Lysana this time.

This was quite a slow starter for me and it's more about character growth than much happening, still I found it interesting.
