I devoured this book in a weekend; it is irresistible. Retelling the story of Rumpelstiltskin seems like an odd premise for a romance but it really works. Our MCs are mistrusting and hesitant and yet they are good to each other and work through things together and take turns saving each other. No toxicity here. And the YEARNING. Omg the yearning.
Princess Gisele is a wonderful mix of brave and kind and fierce. Hell yeah for a 40 year old FMC who is mature and reasonable but also horny and anxious. Her Malediction is gorgeous. I didn't expect to fall in love with a nerdy dandy of a man whose cat ears give away his emotions but here we are. And Skymallow, excuse me?? I never thought I'd love sentient houses but between Stariel and Skymallow I am SOLD. All the side characters are wonderful too. The fae magic works in much the same way as in the author's Stariel series so it felt familiar with its logic, power, and limits.
This book is both cosy and spicy which is an excellent combination that I'd like to see more of.
I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book and read it early, but opinions are my own. I was undoubtedly going to read this on release day. It was as charming as I'd hoped it would be.
