Emily Benedict moved to Mullaby, North Carolina to find out about her mothers past. Her Grandfather, Vance doesn't share a lot of details but it does not escape Emily's awareness that the town did not like Dulcie. With a neighbor who bakes next door, Emily finds a friend but Julia Winterson is determined to move out of Mullaby.

Win Coffey finds himself intrigued by Emily and the story of her mother Dulcie. Not everything though is as it seems for both Emily and Win. They find a kinship with each other and as secrets are revealed, how will it unfold when it comes to them.

This was wonderful, I really enjoy this authors writing she has a very visual way of describing everything. Mesmerizing.

I love Sarah Addison Allen's novels, I find them kind of cozy if that makes sense. Her ability to write a small town novel and make it come alive is really enjoyable and her very subtle use of just a little magic really appeals to me. This particular one was no different but I had an issue with it. The characters in this novel were very one dimensional to me. They just weren't fleshed out. It almost read like different novels when she shifted between the characters. If you noticed this too let me know.

While this is my first book by this author, it won’t be my last!

A girl comes to live in the small Southern town where her mother grew up. Quirky characters, small-town charm, bits of magic and a little touch of mystery make this a charming book. Warning: do not read this book while on a diet. The food all sounds heavenly and made me hungry.

I like Allen's light romances. The closest I really come to reading any kind of romance whatsoever is Sophie Kinsella, so I didn't even really recognize Allen's books as romances till I saw Garden Spells in the romance books in a used book section! This one I'd say is just a touch more obvious, but she still doesn't take the romance info too far.
Again she made me smile.
