Nothing's wrong with the book. i just couldn't get into it
A horror book and short read like this should grip me from the first pages. It didn't work
I guess I will watch the movie instead

Somewhere between 4 & 5 stars. And no, I haven’t seen the film version yet.

An adult psychological thriller where you have no idea what's going on for most of the book. Bird Box is set in a world where you can't go outside without wearing a blindfold, because once you've seen what's out there, it's already too late.
It is a very slow and quiet book, focusing more on the characters than the plot and going for the discreet chills rather than pure shock and terror.
I went into it knowing very little and came out surprised. The writing is very easy to read and Malorie's fight for survival is impressive and compelling. It was interesting to see how all these people used their other senses to compensate for not seeing.
The ending was far too open for my taste and I felt like the story didn't live up to its potential. I kept reading mainly because I wanted answers, and I didn't get any.
Overall, it was a good book that had the potential to be awesome if it had been a little more intense.

This book by a Michigan author was intriguing at first glance. While reading, I was reminded of Blindness by Jose Saramago and The Road by Cormac McCarthy with to the point sentences describing unknown surroundings. It bounces back and forth between the past and the present. The main character, Malorie spends most of her time blindfolded, protecting herself from the 'creatures' in this novel. One glimpse of these monsters drive a person to murder and commit suicide from madness. The storyline and character interactions were enough to keep me reading. But the momentum really picked up near the last third of the novel and I refused to stop reading. I was chilled to the soul and couldn't put it down until I was done. An amazing debut novel from a local author whose reading at a local book store was as equally unique as the book.

Guys, this is easily one of, if not the, most boring horror book I've ever read.

Despite a whole bunch of graphic, gory, edgy shit happening, it's hard to care when you don't know a) WHY any of this is happening and b) WHAT the creatures are. That second point is most important because as a lover of monsters one of the things I get most out of them is their lore. I'm not saying I need a whole encyclopedia entry, just little tidbits that give them life and make them feel real. This "creatures" did not feel real. They felt like a plot device that exists to create tension and horror without any sort of depth or interest given to them. This book is less than 300 pages long, and the ONLY piece of information that expands on the lore of these creatures IS...you can still go crazy seeing them even if you view them through a lens or videotape. That's it. Oh, sorry, and animals can go crazy seeing them, too. Yeah, that's ALL we know about them. And I know, now that the sequel's out, fans are gonna say, "well, maybe they add more lore in the sequel!" Yeah, fun counterargument to that, THE BASIC LORE OF ANY SUPERNATURAL ENTITY SHOULD BE EXPLAINED IN THE FIRST BOOK. That's basic storytelling, folks. Waiting until a sequel to actually fucking EXPLAIN the major threat in a horror novel is ridiculous and reeks of poor storytelling.

On top of the disappointing creatures, I had to suspend my disbelief within page 6 when a GROWN ASS ADULT is relying on 4 YEAR OLDS to guide her as she rows up a FUCKING RIVER. If the children were maybe 8-10 I would be more okay with this, but they're fucking 4, there's no way you can spin that and make it sound believable. Also, there's no suspense whatsoever and I guessed some major plot twists fairly early on and the writing was average.

Giving this two stars because I'm not angry with this, it was just boring and disappointing. If you want a quick read, go for it, but that's the only way I can recommend it.

There's no words to describe this book as I find it one of the best books I've ever read. This book can give you the shivers without you knowing what your shivering at and will give you restless sleep as it has done so to me. I sit here and pray there will be a movie soon but even if there was I wouldn't wait around for it, this book is immaculate.
