Loved this book as a kid and it still held up. The inventions are my favorite part.

A fun adventure unlike any you have ever read before! I wonder if Pixar's movie UP was inspired by this book in some ways?

This book has always been in the back of my mind ever since I read it in elementary with my teacher. There were definitely something’s I remembered but basically felt like reading a new old book (if that makes sense).

previewing to read later with L&C - I think it will be a hit!

2020 : found at McKays for 75c and immediately read aloud with kids. Perfect timing as we just finished Around the World in 80 Days and had the island of Krakatoa come up in our science lesson, totally unrelated to each other except in this quick story!

This was a favorite childhood book for a number of reasons, but the only thing I really remembered from it was the machine that makes the bed because, holy shit, I've wanted one of those my whole life.

Upon reread, it holds up better than I expected. The whimsical nature is still delightful, with lots of fun little concepts that still seem quite original today. It also has a pretty big socialist undercurrent, which I didn't expect.

Overall a fun little book!
