A Life on Our Planet: My Witness Statement and a Vision for the Future by David Attenborough

Amazing book makes you really think about the beauty of nature and how self-sustaining nature can be if we respect it. Sir Attenborough has showed us the natural world and the devastating impact that humans have had to it, but also tells us how we can fix it and that is to increase biodiversity. The final chapters are my favorite as they describe what can be done to revert the damage. Ultimately organisms live in a complex relationship with the environment, if we care for the environment, it will take care of us.

A Life on Our Planet opens with a recap of Attenborough's adventures throughout his career, before pivoting to the main subject of climate change. From unsustainable fishing and forestry practices to human overpopulation, each topic is discussed in an informative and coherent manner. As with almost any biological process, improvement cannot be rushed. We all need to be more intentional about building and maintaining an environment that is conducive for the ecosystem to recover.
