❤️ M/M
❤️ Best Friends to Lovers
❤️ Biawakening
❤️ It’s Always Been You
❤️ Slow Burn
Madden and Penn. Best friends. Idiots in love. A masterclass in bi-awakening, codependency, and painfully slow burns.
This book brings us back to the chaotic and cozy Big BerthaFam family, and this time it’s Madden’s turn to fall headfirst into the feels with his best friend, of course. Madden is a proudly nudist, golden retriever of a man who has always been in love with Penn. Meanwhile, Penn’s figuring out his own sexuality and trying not to fall even harder for the man who’s been his rock for years.
I loved the warmth and humor in this one, especially the way the Big Bertha gang always shows up, and the way Madden and Penn’s friendship is so touchingly intimate, even before things turn romantic. There’s so much pining, so many moments of “just kiss already,” and some really lovely emotional beats as they both try to navigate changing something that means everything to them.
That said, this was probably my least favorite in the series, not because it’s bad (far from it!), but because the lack of communication between the two drove me a little nuts. We have Penn feeling left out but never voicing it, and Madden loving Penn for years without ever telling him. The miscommunication trope is strong in this one, and it did take away from some of the tension and connection for me.
Still, if you love a best-friends-to-lovers story with lots of heart, a splash of spice, and a whole lot of “oh my god just talk to each other,” this one is for you.

I still love the writing, but I couldn’t connect with the MCs, I don’t like that every problem would have been solved if people just talked (dich a new concept !).
Couldn’t connect with the nudist thing, either.
