The cover deserves five stars, but as for the actual story in this second issue... I just found myself a little lost. I'm hopeful that I'll find my groove with issue three.

This was a much stronger issue, even if the pacing is crazy erratic.

Mostly, I just have a soft spot for Moon Girl. And our girl America.

Praying to Selena for the next issue to come quicker!!

I'm loving this series so much! Perfect balance of action and character development!

This starts where the last one left off where America accidentally travelled back to WWII. She meets some of our favorite Marvel heroes before we go back to her college.

My daughter shows up! I won't spoil it but I screamed! The message in this book is so important: it's essentially against the current public school system's penchant for forcing students to all fit into a preset mold. The guest speaker explains that one person's best cannot be someone else's best and the school system should support those differences instead of discouraging them.

Anyway, this lecture happens and it's interrupted by a crisis. America has to go be super and it's awesome! It ends on kind of a cliffhanger.

What stands out the most about this series is Rivera's voice. She adds a humor and depth to America hat's refreshing seeing as she's mostly been a side character. We got a little of her backstory in Young Avengers but here we're getting a lot more of her as a character. I'm loving it!

Can't wait for the next issue!

10 Moments That Actually Killed Me in America #2

1. "You will meet people who'll change the course of your life forever. Learn when to hold onto yourself and when to fly directly into the storm."

America's voiceovers (writeovers?) always kill me.

2. AMERICA CHAVEZ MEETING PEGGY CARTER AKA MY LIFE HERO. OH MY GOD I AM FREAKING OUT RIGHT NOW.

3. PEGGY CARTER TEACHING AMERICA ABOUT SPY STUFF AND HAVING AMAZING ONELINERS. I ACTUALLY CANNOT. I AM DYING OF HAPPINESS.

4. AMERICA BEING MENTORED BY PEGGY CARTER AND LEARNING HOW TO GET HOME. I KNOW THERE ARE A LOT OF CAPS IN THIS REVIEW, GUYS, BUT SERIOUSLY. IT'S PEGGY CARTER, AND I LOVE HER SO MUCH.

5. "Who needs a girlfriend when you have abandonment issues and super-powers?"

America, honey, don't cry. You're breaking my heart. Everything is going to be okay.

6. Not so much a moment as a realization. I just realized this college was named after Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, and it is so awesome. God, I love this series.

8. Lunella Lafayette aka Moongirl is featured in this issue, and she is so amazing and brilliant that I want to read her series right away. Let's hear some of her lecture.

"At any given moment, millions of systems are at work all around us. The blood pumping through our veins. The planets. The food chain. They're all super-specific systems linked to one another. Some of the systems occur organically as a greater part of the universe, like surprises and sunsets. But others are just made-up. Like, why is the school day eight hours long? And why is it that, even though I'm the smartest person in the world, I can't vote? The arbitrariness of it all is the thing that drives me nuts."

Lunella's entire lecture is excellent, and she is a gift to us all.

9. America has a new friend, but she does not have any ancestors. Now I'm very sad.

10. This whole issue was fantastic, and I wish I could cover it all, but I gave myself an arbitrary limit of ten that I feel like sticking to. So instead, I will end with another beautiful America Chavez quote.

"Scrape knees for love. Tell hard truths for love. And definitely run heart-first into the unknown for love. Try to have a plan. But if you don't, make sure you have people. You coming, mi gente?"
