A panoramic tangent through lives of the post 9/11 era. It was considerably easier to follow than I expected. Articulate, comically satirical, but heartfelt overall. I'm skeptical of buzz books and prize winners, and I always want to read them for myself. This one deserved the Pulitzer more than most.
she definitely called it in with the whole powerpoint slides thing (I too sometimes don’t want to fill up pages with words) but overall it was such a good character-driven book. the first chapter was one of the best i’ve read in a minute.

I loved the way this worked as a series of short stories or vignettes around an interconnected group of characters. Despite the brevity of the time spent with each character, I think Egan does a great job of making you care about them.
My biggest problem with this book is that I get a slice of each characters point of view and then never get it again. I know this is this point to the novel and it’s honestly a compliment that Egan was able to write such compelling characters, but I also can’t bring myself to give this five stars.

Brilliant. It's not easy reading though. Let it sink for a while and think about it, then the complexities will come to you in a beautiful way. It's like a piece of music by Bach - not the easiest to "Get" right away, but once you learn to enjoy it, it's deep and meaningful.

I enjoyed the unique structure of the book and how certain stories would finish from a different character's perspective. The chapter told entirely in slides was interesting, especially coming from a young girl's perspective. Overall, I would recommend this book but I wouldn't say it was one of my favorites.
