Beautifully harrowing. You want to read hiding behind the sofa, or with you fingers in front of your eyes, just to save yourself from what you know if inevitable. But you must read on, to be a witness to this incredible tale of love. I would give this book to every man I knew for lessons on love and strength.

This will rip your heart out and tear it in two. One of the bleakest, most difficult to grapple with books I’ve ever read, but I could not put it down. Distinct and effective prose—worked so well to convey the feelings of the kinds of experiences the characters were going through. Oof overall.

The style of writing is unique and some getting used to, but it's very effective. There are several really visceral and horrifying scenes in the book, but it's not entirely hopeless, though definitely very bleak. Relatively short book that you can read in one sitting if wanted. I couldn't put it down.
