I was very unsure about this book because both the MCs were irritating me for the first 20% or so. Sabine grew on me much quicker that the MMC, but I eventually made my peace with him as well. It was interesting to have a morally grey FMC, although she was occasionally over the top for my tastes. I think I prefer her little sister.
This book was all about dubcon and power exchange with the FMC driving the dubcon. The true villain of the story was… somehow more horrifying that Groot (spelling? I’ve been doing the audiobooks lol).
Anyway, those readers who like a nice redemption arc, this book definitely had it for both MCs.

Spice: 5/5

Triggers: murder, violence, incest, torture, dubcon, captivity, kidnapping, children suffering

Cadeon and Holly. I'm not quite sure what to say about this one. It was ok the whole idea that your fated mate could be so crappy towards you is kinda sad and they were both plain wrong at some points. They were a toxic couple.

Finally a villain! I loved this book, as I have with every other book in this series so far. Sabine was a badass and I like that she wasn’t fully turned good by the end, keeps things interesting.

I am very much looking forward to seeing what happens with Lothaire and their kingdom as it grows!

These books just keep getting better and better. Rydstrom and Sabine are so great together. I loved seeing them come to trust each other, despite everything. Finally, after seven books, rydstrom has his kingdom back, and omort is dead.. yay!

This is a good book. It would be a better book, if I didn't already know where they are eventually going to be, due to the previous book. Because I already know this, I am a little frustrated trying to get to that point. And I'm almost at page 300. So because of Ms. Cole's unfortunate tendency to overlap books, this story drags a little and thus is not as good as it could have been.

So once I finally passed that point, the book did get REALLY good. Loved the last 100 pages the best.

What is it that smut fanfiction is called when it's written just for the sex? Oh yes, porn without plot. That's what this feels like for most of the book. Seriously, from the get-go you've got a captured demon king being sexually tortured by some crazy sorceress. Then, when a vampire randomly sets him free, he captures the sorceress and does the same thing to her! Of course, there's a happily ever after, some fighting (must find some way to describe all the sexy male bodies, right?), and a few other characters thrown in for spice, but yeah... Porn without plot.

I love these two together. This is true enemies to lovers and it’s deliciously hot. Both Sabine and Rydstrom are morally gray with long pasts filled with whatever the opposite of sunshine and rainbows is and they’ve both got this BDE that clashes with each others as much as it ignites them together.

This is also the book that left me asking is Rök getting his own book? (It’s The Witch Queen of Halloween releasing March ‘24)

Narration: Robert Pekoff is fantastic as always. This one is especially entertaining since he’s playing Sabine who is a fantastic storyteller in her own right.
