I'm just bored. Nothing is happening.  There's no tension and I just don't care.

Didn't have time to finish it for book club and it didn't hook me enough to keep reading after the book club meeting was done

This was Kindred Stories October book club pick. I was super excited to read it, but then I missed the book club event due to the horrible Astros game (should have gone to book club). Book 2.5 stars, but the Astros game was 0 out of 5, do not recommend unless you are Rangers fan and then i ask you to just move along.

While this story kept my interest and LaValle is a beautiful writer with great characters, this book dragged and well kind of underwhelming. Seriously, this could have been 100-200 pages less with the amount of fluff included. If you are a horror fan wanting a creepy mental hospital with a devil type character, run away from this book. This is not the book for you. If you turned away from this book, because you thought it was horror, I would read it. I expected a creepy mental hospital book, and meh. And halfway through the long book, we find out what the bison is and then it goes to a romance. I will say that we have one main character and lots of other characters that most get a point of view in the book (even the damn rat...don't get me started). LaValle transitions so well between the characters that I never got confused who was thinking and talking. It's probably the best I've ever read. Outlander...take note please. Also, am I the only one surprised Pepper was white?!

I'm glad I read it and will read other books from this author, but I quickly put this book in the neighbor book library shelf for others to read. And the title...well, that was given a one off explanation that was kind of okay, but didn't give anymore explanation or connections.

Can you prove you are not insane? If you spent 24 hours a day with people who were insane, how long would it take for you to start buying into others delusions? Less of a horror novel and more of an indictment of the mental health care industry, The Devil In Silver left me feeling just a bit uncomfortable. In the same way I felt uncomfortable after reading [b:The Jungle|41681|The Jungle|Upton Sinclair|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1332140681s/41681.jpg|1253187] by Upton Sinclair. But is this book really "muckracking?" I don't have an answer. I would like to think that the million tiny little abuses suffered by the patients in this book are exaggerated for poetic purposes, but a small and surprisingly vocal part of my brain suspects they might not be.

This was an incredibly well written story with characters so well developed that I felt I knew these characters, and I felt I was experiencing the events in the story.

4.5 of 5 stars (Man, I sure with Goodreads allowed reviews with 1/2 stars.)
