Another great book from the man himself. I've already read a couple other Discworld books, but I could see this one as a good introduction to the series.

Such a fun read. My partner read this book to me as our bedtime story, and it was a blast to have him explain Discworld to me while I explained the Christian iconography to him!

Incredibly charming and intelligent. Pratchett’s unique voice makes reading each page really pleasurable. It’s the first Discworld book I’ve finished (Colour of Magic has been attempted a few times and never grabbed me), and it definitely has sparked my curiosity about reading more Discworld, particularly the series about Death.

However, I personally didn’t find anything terribly compelling about the story or characters in this book. Which isn’t necessarily a failure of Pratchett’s- I think they were intentionally not the focus of the book. The clever statements being made about human nature and religion are the point here. And they are incredibly effective- this book is worth reading for them alone- but at the end of the day it’s just not quite my cup of tea, in terms of fiction I read for the pleasure of a good narrative with characters that make you feel emotions. I didn’t feel any emotions reading this, it’s just a very clever book.
