Oh, Terry Pratchett, you scoundrel. A terrific, tongue-in-cheek send-up of organized religion that manages to point out its foibles without being threatening in the least. Also, while I was reading, I kept wondering if my tortoise Denise was actually some sort of small god, and then I would look over at her and her head would be in her water bowl and her ass would be in the air, and I'd be like, no, it's okay. We're good.

Quoteses:
"And it came to pass that in time the Great God Om spake unto Brutha, the Chosen One: 'Psst!'"

"Life in this world is, as it were, a sojourn in a cave. What can we know of reality? For all we can see of the true nature of existence is, shall we say, no more than bewildering and amusing shadows cast upon the inner wall of the cave by the unseen blinding light of absolute truth, from which we may or may not deduce some glimmer of veracity, and we as troglodyte seekers of wisdom can only lift our voices to the unseen and say humbly 'Go on, do deformed rabbit... it's my favourite.'"

"'What's a philosopher ?' said Brutha. 'Someone who's bright enough to find a job with no heavy lifting," said a voice in his head."

"'You're not one of us.' 'I don't think I'm one of them, either,' said Brutha. 'I'm one of mine.'"

"The turtle moves."

There's that question people always ask: "If you could have dinner with anyone, living or dead, who would it be?" And (assuming fictional characters are not an option) I think my new answer may be Sir Terry Pratchet
