Bishops move diagonally. That's why they often turn up where the kings don't expect them to be.
Small Gods takes a more pointed approach to get a message across than the other Discworld novels I’ve read. Pratchett tackles themes of religion vs individual belief and faith while following a diverse cast. Characters will use religion for their own personal gain and power while completely forfeiting the beliefs of the religion itself. Even going so far as to gain a massive political advantage and “turning others into copies of themselves”
A timeless read that I really enjoyed and I think those with or without faith will find sustenance in reading it

Thirteenth in the Discworld series; standalone. Om, the Great God of the Omnian Empire, decides to manifest to his people, perhaps as a majestic bull or a swan, and instead finds himself trapped in the form of a small tortoise for three years; he eventually makes contact with a young novice, Brutha, only to find that Brutha is his only true believer left... A brutal look at organized religion. Pratchett takes many of the themes and ideas he was working with in Pyramids and dives into them in much more detail. How much of religion is faith, and the desire to be a good person, and how much is the fear of the organization? How much is the meat and how much is the shell? Do you know who you are in the dark all alone? One of Pratchett's best and most thought-provoking (and still with no shortage of humor!)
