Small Gods

Terry Pratchett

Its hard to go wrong with Terry Pratchett. Usually my favorites involve Captain Vimes or Moist von Lipwick, but this is a great one-off. Its upbeat and entertaining but also takes a close look at some of the potential the pros and cons of organized religion. Obviously these will be a bit different if your god can sit in your pocket and have a full conversation, but the overall points stand

"But why is it that the heathens and the barbarians seem to have the best places to go when they die?”

Read this awhile back and forgot to add it. Also re-read the Color of Magic. Yes, I want credit for that.

 [This is a re-read]

This was the first Discworld book I read, and with every re-read I just like it more and more. The way Pratchett writes is so refreshing and funny while tackling important issues.

This time, I read it while annotating it as part of a Christmas present for my BFF.

All of these books are brilliant. A little light on the fantasy and action in this one and a little slower than other discworld novels I've read. This is more of a slow, humorous meditation on the power of belief, how it unites, divides and conquers people. Loved it.

The Turtle Moves!
It's hard to pick a favorite Diskworld novel, but this is a strong contender.  Further it's largely standalone nature makes it a great introduction into Sir Pratchett's writing style and the themes that are found throughout his works.

This was super fun. It was my first Discworld and I wanted to try out the series in between some heavier books I've been reading. I'm definitely going to be checking out more of Pratchett's work.
