emotional medium-paced

Brimming with emotion and heartbreak, The Boy in the Photo is what I'd call a psychological drama, focused on an important type of crime - parental abduction. While there is some level of mystery and the story is well-paced, I hesitate to call it a thriller (even psychological thriller) in the traditional sense. Many of the revelations aren't difficult to uncover, but it doesn't make them any less powerful.

The story is written in such a way that it's almost hard to believe the experience isn't something the author has gone through herself. From Megan's churning emotions over the return of her son to Daniel's experiences suffering the brunt of his father's emotional and psychological abuse, every chapter is searing but unputdownable.
