fun book, super entertaining but the YA elements are painfully obvious. disliked the way beauty is emphasized unnecessarily and there were definitely some cliches like celaena being "not like other girls" and not wanting to befriend other girls but not having any trouble befriending other guys. nice set up for fantastical elements though. good enough plot, and the story ended with the major plot tied off while leaving open many directions for the next books to go in.

Easy-to-read fantasy! It was just fun. Idk if I’ll read the rest of the series yet, but I’m glad to be reminded I have a big imagination and girl assassins are kick ass

I loved this book. Assassin left to rot in a work camp only to be freed to compete for the chance of being a champion? Yes, please! Possible love triangle? Count me in! Lots of action with a witty FMC? Sold!

I was younger when i first read this and wanted to reread to finish the series! It is entertaining but now that i have read other books and that i am a bit older i don't feel that this is a 4 star book. Entertaining for sure but writing is lacking :) will still try to finish series

Interesting premise, and lots of possibility, but too much telling and not enough showing. I think this writer could go places, but isn't quite there yet. I am likely going to try a few more things before I decide.
