2.5 stars.

This book had great ideas but fell a little flat. It focused too much on the down time of the main character instead of being present for parts that would have been kickass. The plot revolved around Celeana competing to be the king's champion but most of that happens off screen. Instead we get boring watered down romance and lots of thinking about doing things but not actually doing them. Too much talking, not enough action.

I read this 11-12 years ago when it first released (I literally remember it being pitched as a Cinderella retelling) so I'm honestly surprised at just how much I remembered about the book.
One of the reasons I never continued is because I cannot stand fae

So I absolutely hated ACOTAR but I decided to give the author another chance. I actually really enjoyed this. Like it was kind of dumb and Celaena isn't all that likeable but I was definitely entertained and I do plan on reading the next book.
