Extremely addicting book, though the writing at first feels very "I'm not like other girls" vibes. It got better, however, and honestly was quite a good listen. It felt cheesy and kind of kitchy, but honestly loveable in that kind of silly way.

Unique in some ways, but felt very much like the Tamora Pierce Tortall universe, both in writing and character development (and even plot, now thinking about it more). Fun in a way that isn't complicated.

I'd recommend this book for YA audiences, or adults who don't mind the mushy feelings of youth.

I love that the book has an overly talented female main character *and* that she is extremely unique in her talents and backstory.

I’m a little more judgy going into TOG having read and LOVED both ACOTAR and Crescent City. I have the advanced knowledge! I literally discovered some of my favorite characters in those series so Celaena has a lot to live up to.

That said, I did really enjoy this book despite finding it slow at times. I was compelled to keep going because of my curiosity, the love triangle between her and Dorian and Chaol (she gets cleaned up and one shower and they’re BOTH into her? I could never) and who will triumph, as well as just knowing how much my friends love this series - all kept me reading.

I just found the pacing a bit slower than I expected compared to the first books in the other series. But nevertheless I’m excited to keep going!

A great book. Celaena is a great character, the story is very interesting to read. Can’t wait to read the other books of “Throne of Glass”.

This book slapped! There was so much going on, and the storytelling was so expertly crafted. I loved getting to learn about these characters, especially our main character, and learn more about the world they inhabit. I can't believe this is the first book in a series and that it only goes up from here--this was already so good! Anyways, you can all call me the fool for not reading this sooner, I won't mind because you'd be right. I'm not a big fantasy person usually, but this world is very easily understandable and although it takes place in a different world and there's magic, I never felt really lost in understanding the dynamics of the world (perhaps because it mirrors our own so well re: colonization (yikes)). I could say a lot more, but I still need to organize my thoughts honestly--soo much happened that there's a lot to consider. Excited for the next one!

It is very strange entering into a fandom so many years after it got going, and I think this may be a case of me jumping on the bandwagon too late. I’ve written a few Maas articles the last little while surrounding the release of CC #3, so I was finally intrigued enough to pick up the first ToG book and even weeks later I’m not sure what my thoughts are about the book. I certainly haven’t felt an immediate compulsion to pick up the second installment. I’m also not sure if we as an audience were supposed to like Dorian as a character/love interest or not, because that definitely wasn’t my experience. I found that I really didn’t love any of the characters and I’m still undecided on Celaena too. However, it was still an entertaining book.

An assassin, a bunch of thieves, and ex military personnel have to battle it out to become the king’s champion (aka the kings assassin). During this drawn out battle, someone seems to be targeting the contenders, leading to violent deaths. This book fits in the mystery, fantasy, dystopian, and romance genres!
