This was a good book! The first half was a bit slow as it set up the world but the ending was exciting and makes me anxious to run to the store for the next one in the series! Now that the world building is established the rest of the books should be faster paced. The characters were nicely fleshed out and easy to empathize with. There’s some murder mystery elements in this book as well that I greatly enjoyed! I would recommend this book to those who don’t want spice but still want a cute little will they won’t they romance in a mostly adventure based fantasy setting.

Extremely addicting book, though the writing at first feels very "I'm not like other girls" vibes. It got better, however, and honestly was quite a good listen. It felt cheesy and kind of kitchy, but honestly loveable in that kind of silly way.

Unique in some ways, but felt very much like the Tamora Pierce Tortall universe, both in writing and character development (and even plot, now thinking about it more). Fun in a way that isn't complicated.

I'd recommend this book for YA audiences, or adults who don't mind the mushy feelings of youth.

I love that the book has an overly talented female main character *and* that she is extremely unique in her talents and backstory.

I devoured this book. It was easy to follow and even the slower parts were interesting. I was kept engaged and intrigued. I love Dorian and Celaena’s witty banter. The way Chaol cares for Celaena in his own way is amazing.
Celaena and Nehemiah’s friendship is precious and I love how Elena defends Celaena.

I do wish there was a clearer distinction and more organized approach when switching POVs but it’s a fun switch.
I also thought the reveal that Cain was summoning creatures was a little predictable. I was surprised to see that Perrington was controlling him and not just influencing him.

I’m excited to see where this series goes. This was a great opener.
