Holy crap... and this is just book 1!

I have NO bad things to say about this book, and frankly, I'm just rearing to go and read book 2. The only thing I wish was that it was multiple point of view... but oh well!

Considering I'm out of college, I'm normally not a high school romance kind of gal, but damn if this book didn't slap. The writing wasn't top tier however my experience was so frickin awesome that it deserves a 5 star review. So, let's get into it.

Honestly, I love Bernie. She's a baddie and doesn't do that sort of "i'm not like other girls" thing. Like she isn't, but she doesn't say it or anything, she just is what she is. Her story is also sad enough for sympathy but not crazy enough that it's not believable. The trauma added to the believability of her attitude/demeanor and had me rooting for her even during moments she might have otherwise pissed me off.

Now onto the boys. When dealing with more than like 2 men, it can be hard to keep them distinguished from one another. Not here though. Hael, Aaron, Victor, Oscar, and Callum are all SO different and I wanted each other them –– I got Bernie's obsession. They each bring something different to the dynamic of HAVOC and the dynamic of Bernie's development as a character. She needs every single one of them for various reasons and I don't think she'd be the same without each one of them.

Something else that I LOVED was the fact sexy stuff wasn't even introduced until halfway-ish into the book. The plot was so entertaining and drove most of the book that I didn't even really care about the slow burn sex part. Like I couldn't wait for them all to cave but I was so into the plot it didn't even matter that it was slow burn. Plus, when things did start happening it wasn't clear cut and perfect. These flawed characters had flawed interactions and sex which was believable.

In terms of the plot too, I found the concept interesting enough but all the various components at play made things so high stakes. The other schools/gangs, Kali, the principle, the families, everyone has different baggage that plays a part in all the shit going on. It's so entertaining and sometimes I forgot about stuff that came back later on and had me gaping in shock (moreso later on in the series).

I tore through this book and immediately started the second one. Obsessed isn't even the right word. 10/10 experience!

HOLY. FREAKING. CLIFFHANGER. BATMAN!!!!!

As far as bully books go its getting pretty hard to get one to stand out - esp with it being THE genre to write in atm and the influx has been massive.
I have to admit that the first bully series I read was "The Filthy Blue Bloods" by this very author and it was due to that I read more, but it was rare for any to match up to the enjoyment I felt reading that.

THIS was a different kind of bully book. And a different kind of enjoyment. And I'm gutted the next book isn't out till Jan 20!!!!!

HAVOC. Say this in the school halls and you "invoke" the powers of the most notorious group of misfits around. They will take on the kind of task/problem you won't/can't do....for a price.

The acronym each stands for one of the leaders of the group. Victor leads them but they each work an angle that makes them work seamlessly and it's this that makes them appear untouchable....

Bernadette calls them. She has 7 things she needs to have dealt with. She knows that calling HAVOC is going to not only cost her a price, but each thing is going to have vengeance paid for past actions by the force that is HAVOC. Each one has done actions unforgivable but how far would they take each vengeance?

The price for Bernadette is to become a HAVOC girl. Feeling like she has literally nothing to lose, she accepts.....but after you accept there's no going back. And Bernie has been a little short sighted and hasn't thought through exactly what this would entail...and how long....

The boys start working thru the list and Bernie gets the rep of being one of HAVOC.

But as there always is.....rivals are rising to come against the boys. They believe HAVOC have lost their touch....

The Halloween party is the big party where students from Prescott High, Fuller High and Oak Valley Prep all go to.....

Just asking for trouble right?

Right.

Please hurry with the next one!!!!!!!!

Is it well-written? No. Does the plot make sense? Absolutely not. Did I enjoy it? Sure did.

The things that took me out of it were small but significant. The writing is really repetitive, and there are entire paragraphs of internal monologues that I felt like I'd read 10x before. Also, how are all of these teens completely covered in tattoos? One or two, I'd understand, but all 6 of them? I also really don't like when fad slang is used because it sounds so dated (for example, more than once, Bernie says her makeup is "on point). Also, I don't remember if it was in this book (I've read all 5 now) but I HATED the Covid references. They were so weird and unnecessary.

Objectively this wasn't the greatest but I would be lying if I said this wasn't a whole lot of fun. The mystery around why the boys are the way they are pushed me to keep reading and the reasoning behind why she chose to call upon made sure that each and every chapter was intriguing

OK now I can see how this is going to continue to the next book because we’re still missing a WHOLE bunch of resolution.

I’m trying to figure out how the beginning meeting sophomore year happened what was the girls price for making her live for four months hell?! Why would they do that in the first place, especially Aaron.

Also, thinking are all of the boys going to be with her because it just seems like Victor is hogging a lot and very possessive.

Then you have almost all the characters I hate I don’t understand why they haven’t been taken care of in the permanent sense yet I’m hoping at least by book 3 will start seeing some permanent disappearances…maybe?!

I’ve never felt such discussed for a lot of the characters in here, but they are on her list so I can understand why she wants them to pay. My strongest feeling though is when we actually find out what happened sophomore year it’s going to destroy her and I am so nervous.

Amazing, cant wait for book 2!

I honestly don't know how to even start my review of this book. This book takes you on quite a ride, there are twists and turns, and some if the hottest scenes! I could not put this book down. I love Bernie, she has had such a rough life, but she does not let life take her down, she fights and she fights hard. I love the havoc boys, they all of some rough pasts, i cant wait to read more into them in the next book. This book does end on a huge cliffhanger, but i know it will be well worth the wait for the second book. Just truly amazing!
