Listened to this one. A coming of age story wrapped in a murder mystery. One main character coming of age too late. One too early. A whole lot of tragedy here. So much trauma. I guessed

the Robin twist

almost immediately.  I just didn’t figure all the details until the very end. Other twists I didn’t see coming and that brought some clarity.

I read some reviews where people talked about how frustrated they were with Duchess and how they just couldn’t like her and I thought that spoke a lot to how we as adults so rarely can tolerate the behavior of children who experience such horrifying trauma, even when we know it’s happened. And what a privilege it is to not know what that’s like.

This was a DNF - I just couldn’t get into the audio. I loved all the colours of the dark so thought I’d enjoy this - it was the audio more than the story itself j think. I may try again in paperback/ebook in the future, but for now it’s a no

The beginning of this book was a little confusing to me, but once the characters became clearer I really enjoyed it. The way you are both rooting for and angry at things mostly Duchess does, was interesting and engaging!

A coming of age story at it's heart, you will be cheering on Duchess and Robin. I found the pace of the story slow and tedious. I stayed committed because I was invested in what happened with Duchess and Robin. The language gets tedious but I dealt with it. Read it if you don't have anything else available to read.
