What a cute, fun, and quick story! It rare that I enjoy a character as much as I enjoyed Mickey and her sunshine. Maybe it’s because we’re so similar 🤷🏽‍♀️ ANYWAYS. This book is such a cute fun story. I’d imagine reading this on the beach would be lovely. Some of the characters outside of the main two, would be great to get to know, but I felt like we knew just enough to focus on Mickey and Diego. It’s easy to fall in love with Diego and Mickey for sure. Overall I enjoyed this sweet little romance book. 🥰

Taylor Swift songs: “I can see you (tv)(ftv)”

Age rating: 16+ (2 spicy scenes, 1/5🌶️)

Actually screaming and foaming at the mouth for this book. Their tension and chemistry was out of this world! I was actually HOOKED on this book from the first chapter. Everything about this book was chef’s kiss, perfection. When I say this man is obsessed with her, I mean OBSESSED!! He is so down bad for her from day one!! I loved that it was dual-pov, so we get to see him pining over her so badly, ugh I love it.

I also love seeing stories about people in their 30s who are still trying to figure out what is best for them career wise! It’s so refreshing to see people who don’t have it all figured out. I loved her character arc in regards to that! I also loved how they discussed Diego’s healing and grieving journey!!

This is how you do age gaps correctly!! The power dynamic where he is older and her boss but she is his professor makes it balanced and not uncomfortable/weird.

Also, we love Chronic illness representation in books!! The FMC has hyperthyroidism. I also love the BIPOC rep, the FMC is black and the MMC is Latinx!

TW: widower, past spouse death, cancer death

Give me more romance with characters in their 30s and 40s because this was wonderful! This contemporary was so refreshing in that it never felt like the plot was reliant on popular tropes- everything just flowed naturally.

Mickey and Diego were real characters working through very real conflicts. Mickey with her chronic illness and financial instability w/ balancing working in academia and her medical care. And Diego going back to school and finally rediscovering himself years after the death of his wife. They were so sweet.

And I love this cast of side characters- I wonder if Cleo is going to get her own book because I would LOVE to see if there is something brewing with her and that potential new campaign manager she'll have to work with 😏

Also, this is one that I switched back and forth from physical to audio and I actually preferred the physical read. The narrator wasn't bad but they didn't emote very well and it made the dialogue fall a little flat.

So, so much fun! And sentimental! And Diego’s dirty talk!

my most favorite TASTEFUL age gap romance (she's 33, he's 42), as someone who detests the age gap trope

she's his professor, he's her boss (she takes on a second job to help pay for her thyroid medication because academia doesn't pay well! i love capitalism)
