I'm not sure what to say about this book. It's rendered me speechless.

Like most Neil Gaiman books I went in blind, not knowing anything about the story. Like most Neil Gaiman books, I ended up loving the story. He does such a great job of making me turn each page and not wanting to put the book down, as cliché as that sounds. I would rank this at the top of my list next to The Graveyard Book and Anasi Boys. Very much worth the read!

I wanted to give 4 stars to this book but I decided to give 3.5 stars. Hey, I am still highly recommendation this book to everyone who haven't read it.

Look at this cover book, I really like it.... A LOT!!!!! It's perfect to match to the title and short describe about young man when he was little boy, his friend Lettie put him in her pond ocean! I can make those short describe into an imagine about him went under water.

During, I write note about young man, I just realize that author Neil didn't tell us what young man's name. If you knew his name or the book did said his name then I must have missed it. I was trying to remember if this book did said his name. Oh yeah, same thing about his sister...I didn't know what her name was... I only knew names were Lettie, Hempstock (Lettie's mother and Grandmother), and Ursula Monkten.

Ok. Let me tell you what I think of this book.
Here I am!

At begin, you know Prologue, I was little confuse about young man was at the funeral and visit to his old house. I was like what? I was assume it does bore me...but I continue to read because, never know that there will be interesting about something...and I was hoping that there will talking about young man's childhood or old house to what's happened to them.

BAM!!

I was right about it...that they did talked about young man's childhood when he was little boy who lived in old house where he was moved into new old house.

It was getting interesting because of Lettie and her grandmother and mother. I thought that they were witched. But I was wrong because.... it was hard to explain... They are like.... MAGICAL! Like Lettie put little boy in the ocean..underwater! It was like magical...it was so WICKED!!! Now I thought that Ursula Monklen was witched and scary monster!!!! And wow, everything were creation, monster, and MAGICAL!!!

I was hoping that young man that has come back to his old house and visit Lettie's house to see Lettie....unfortunate that Lettie is still in her pond ocean! :(

I am thinking that could be nice that pond can be ocean...I mean, I can go to pond and jump into the pond to be ocean to see all fishes, coral, and everything in ocean but NO SHARK! hah Hey, I am weird! :) I guess that's all!

3,5⭐

It was weird, but surprisingly I kind of liked it.

An captivating world of magical realism that leaves you wanting more. The story is told through the eyes of a young boy, whose name is unknown to the reader. This dark and often terrifying magical world pulls you in with its mystery and wonderment. Though this world is dangerous, it is a welcome reprieve from the harsh pain of the real-world.

It's an interesting approach to memory and childhood trauma, but at times seems to wander a bit and would benefit from some signposts to help the reader along.
