Neil has a way of creating stories I don't want to end. I just want it to keep going so I can find out more and more but they always end so perfectly for the stories they tell. Another great read.

"Adult stories never made sense, and they were so slow to start."
This quote sums up my experience with "The Ocean at the End of the Lane".
The concept was interesting, but the execution had ups and downs.
First. The point of view.
Seeing the events from the perspective of a average young boy when you have vibrant witches as secondary characters is clearly not the most engaging choice.
Second. Magical realism - when done well it can give a great atmosphere to the story.
There were moments in which I was sure Gaiman was on to something, then it all crumbled to allegories that did not work.
Third. Weird fiction.
Again, another subgenre that can leave so much room to interpretation, but here they were a few elements and symbols that worked and some that were confusing.
While there were elements that I appreciated: the love for books, old witch family with magical powers, the fragility of memory, unfortunately the rest did not work out for me.

Un libro mágico creado por una mente muy imaginativa y que nos envía a un mundo casi igual que el nuestro, perfectamente reconocible, pero mucho más amplio. La pluma es sencilla, pero tiene una delicadeza muy adecuada para la historia. Preciosa, realmente.

This book was just... uncomfortable. The writing was pretentious, the characters has literally no personality and everyone was just miserable for the sake of being miserable. I didn't feel as though I gained anything from having read this book. I felt like it jumped all over the place and someone kept hitting the skip button on this story. I know Gaiman is a beloved author in the community, but after reading this, I'm not sure why.
