“You don’t pass or fail at being a person, dear.”
I just finished Ocean at the End of the Lane and I’m in TEARS. In the best way. The story is completely about growing up and being able to face who you are, recognizing your youth and moving on from it while still holding childhood wonder and reverence for that time, even if your memory isn’t always correct. For anyone looking for a quick read, I really recommend this book. It really feels like a modern fairytale.

A surreal and relatable modern fairy tale. The Ocean at the End of the Lane embodies the bizarre, indescribable nightmares you had in childhood and provides plentiful food for thought. This is my first Neil Gaiman book and it's left me interested in reading more of his work. I enjoyed the rich myth he crafted from a seemingly mundane scenario. Powerful imagination.

I enjoyed this book but it really wasn't Gaiman's best writing. I felt like it was underdeveloped and some of the sentences read very awkward, as a writing style was more attempted as opposed to accomplished. Wonderful novel idea, but I really wish it was developed more.

A decent read that I probably would rate higher if Neil Gaiman wasn't such a creep.
