Jill did an amazing job of capturing the harm that organized religion has inflicted on her family while holding such grace and love for everyone involved.

As someone who has lived under a family that idolized the Duggar lifestyle, this was both hard and relieving to listen to and understand more thoroughly why my parents made the decisions that they did.

I can’t believe the level of trauma Jill and her husband faced. I applaud them for the enormous amount of courage it took for them to, not only stand up for themselves and their family, but to also write this

I remember a time when “19 Kids and Counting” was common place on TLC. I’m in shock with the events that took place off camera. It shows you how much wasn’t shown on television.

There were so many times this book shocked and horrified me.

“…How much harder it was for boys to keep their thoughts pure.” Sounds a lot like an excuse for poor behaviour and not having accountability. The religion was weaponized; can’t ignore that.

“I was mad. I wanted to ask him why he thought he had the right to comment about MY uterus.” 100%. No one has the right to make decisions about a woman’s uterus. She was guilted for, potentially, not having the ability to give birth again. This level of trauma and shame is unhealthy. It makes me sad that she struggled for so long as a child and as an adult. To be shamed for not having a large family because of a weaponized religion is disgusting.

I’m so glad that Jill and her family are seeking therapy and help to be able to heal and grow. My best wishes for the family moving forward.

Jill ate and left no crumbs. This book was wonderfully written and beautifully narrated. You can feel the trama she went through, even if you haven't dealt with religious trauma, you feel her pain and struggle.
