I have never known anything about the family and now I feel like I know a little about their story. Jill comes across as very fair and nonjudgmental about what is happening. But what really disturbed me was hearing about her father. He is seriously manipulative and emotionally abusive and she's too nice about it. I'm glad she's in therapy and trying to make her family life work for her.

Heartbreaking what she had to go through. Josh Duggar should rot in jail. I listened to it as an audiobook.

A memoir from one of the Duggar children and her journey from a child on reality TV to adulthood.
I feel like she went WAY too easy on her parents. She might not want to go too hard on them because of legal proceedings and her relationship with her siblings. But her parents completely brainwashed her, and she overlooked much of that in this book. As well as not getting much into how IBL is a cult, she mentioned it but didn't get into it much.
This book was a bit surface-level. I hope she's able to work through more therapy. It was quite rage-inducing, at the Duggar parents and the church book. Her Dad is the worst! He's an expert manipulator.

Narrator Rating: 3 stars
I like that she read her memoir, but her voice was easy to get bored by.

Most Americans have heard of the Duggar family,  and are familiar with parts of their story from the long running reality show to interviews,  news stories and a documentary. Jill is one of the eldest of 19 Duggar children and her life has not always been what the public saw. Her brave, honest memoir acknowledges the joy and pain growing up on camera,  and the secrets she was forced to keep. I appreciate her choice to tell her story her way, and hope her life is easier in the future. The book is a fast read, but makes the reader think about the impact of religion and family on children's development and safety.

Jill is strong and thoughtful with her words and story. I think she’s really opened the world’s eyes with this book.
