Such imaginative writing. He is an expert at examining the way human beings treat each other. Great thoughtful stuff.

The audiobook 10/10

I am a Saunders fan but this collection of stories fell a little flat for me. Especially the true dystopian ones. Just wasn’t for me

Reluctantly giving it 2.5 stars. I really wish I liked it more but I think this is my least favorite of Saunders’s books.

So weird but so many beautiful and/or laugh out loud moments

This collection of short stories is extremely well written and the stories are creative and fresh, but it was not for me. I found the worlds the author created to be bleak, disturbing, and hopeless. The title story, Liberation Day, along with a few others in the collection, will haunt me. I imagine the author would be pleased to hear that his words were so effective and memorable and I admit that he is a masterful storyteller. But reading this book was a miserable experience and I’m left with a sour taste in my mouth and an uneasy twist in my stomach a full day after finishing it, which is not what I’m looking for out of a book. If that’s your thing, highly recommend.

The book was obvious, heavy handed. But this sparked wild discussions in book club, and that's a rare kinda magic.
