While it seems obvious now, I certainly didn’t see THAT plot twist coming. 😅

This is my first read from Freida. The book was fast paced and kept me on the hook ! I loved the alternative perspectives in two different timelines and the short chapters. The last twist was unreal ! I could have never guessed that. Great read indeed !

However, I didnt like the FMC at all. She made so many dumb decisions and was so obsessed with looks and sex that she clearly wasn’t being a good friend or a sensible human who takes care of her own safety. I kinda liked the toxic evil characters more than her. And that’s the reason why I gave this book a 4.

This book was such a fast paced read. I loves the plot and that final twist? Did not see that coming at all. 😮‍💨

Would recommend for anyone looking for a good psychological thriller to keep you in the edge of your seat.

Why, I find myself asking, is every main character I read from this author so obnoxious?

Sydney, girl, GET A GRIP. Or maybe just a clue. There were so many things that she wrote off as "coincidences" that were NOT coincidental.

Also, this is the second time a Frieda twist hasn't surprised me. I'm not sure why everyone was so shocked by this one, because I had it nailed down.

The thing I didn't get correct was about Slug, but for the sake of spoilers I won't say what I thought or what was true.

Omg, the ending of this was.... a lot and very very rushed. The epilogue served to show that Sydney remains a moron.

Let's make our main characters not stupid, please 🙏🏻... That is all.

Did not see that coming! One of the best books I’ve read from Freida! Loved how there was no emphasis on any mental disorders. I find that always to be a very tacky and lazy choice in thrillers. Especially as having a mental or personality disorder doesn’t mean you are prone to killing people… Like I said, lazy!

Thrillers aren’t usually my thing—I’m more of a cozy romance or emotional, character-driven story kind of girl. But The Boyfriend by Freida McFadden? I get the hype now. I picked it up after seeing so many glowing reviews and figured, “Why not?” And ohhh my gosh—I was instantly hooked. I listened to the audiobook (which was so good, by the way), and before I knew it, I started contemplating every charming guy I’ve ever met. 😅

Sydney was such a relatable main character—she’s got her life together on paper, but like so many of us, she’s still trying to figure out love. Her relationship with Tom starts off like a literal dream, but the cracks start showing fast. The twists? Constant. The pacing? Fast and addicting. And just when I thought I had things figured out, Freida flipped it on me. She really knows how to mess with your head.

If you’re even thinking about dipping into thrillers, start here. It’s super readable, twisty without being confusing, and full of those “WAIT, WHAT?!” moments that make you want to text someone immediately. Even if you’re not a thriller girlie—you might be after this one.
