I read a number of GL webcomics, so I thought I'd read a more standard yuri graphic novel that was lauded in a number of places, particularly since it was at my library. NOPE. DO NOT LIKE. I strongly dislike the major concept of it being so weird to be attracted to another girl, but worse is the forcing themselves on each other.

This yuri is mostly just male gaze fan service. A mix of two step sisters trope, enemies to lovers, AND homophobia... it's just a manga porn for straight men lol. Unfortunately, I was not as amused as I am not a straight man.

I'm going to try to give my review of this manga without as many spoilers as possible. The reason I rated it a one is because there are too many problems that are in this book. The art is great, but the story is just terrible.

(1) A lack of clearly defined boundaries

When they first met, there were no boundaries established. Even when a person was uncomfortable, nothing was said about it.

(2) Borderline incest

It literally says in the first few pages that it is a secret/forbidden romance between two sisters. Not only that, but it was also brought up more than once in the story, making the argument that the author doesn't see them as sisters obsolete.

(3) There was no consent given.

Basically, what happens is that Mei gets assaulted and pretty much takes it out on Yuzu when questioned about it. It happens a lot for it to be the first volume.

(4) Fetishizing

At this point, the glaring incest and lack of consent pretty much lead one to believe that this is for people who fetishize wlw. There is too much fan service, and there is an ongoing theme around boob sizes.

(5) No plot

So far, there is no ongoing plot, other than no communication and constant assaults. There have been other characters introduced, but they don't add much to the story.

For all these reasons, I rate it a 1/5. I'm not comfortable enough to read any more volumes as I have no hopes of this getting any better.

I think because I know where this goes I’m a lot more forgiving of some emotional jumps and gaps.

I expected something a little more typical, I think. Although, I don’t know, I suppose I don’t read enough yuri to really know what’s typical.

Aihara is being forced to move and transfer to a new school, because her mother is getting married. And in this change, she gets a step-sister, Mei, who for some reason pushes her in interesting ways.

Aihara is stubborn and brash and rebellious. And surprisingly shy and embarrassed around Mei, even if she’s pushy and curious and finding out that she might actually like her. She’s a bit high-strung, but she does have a good heart in her.

Mei, on the other hand, is standoffish, strict. She seems more beaten down, doing what she’s told instead of what she wants, to me. She doesn’t seem to feel much, and she lets others do what they want with her. But for some reason, she’s attracted to Aihara. Or at least Aihara is attracted to her, and wants to do something about it.

I wasn’t expecting the direction that Mei’s feelings went, or the complications with her and her family. I also wasn’t expecting this much conflict about the attraction from both parties. It has me intrigued to see where the story goes from here.

Honestly, this is my first manga O.O I know.... it took me awhile to finally read manga. I love anime, but the reading style of manga made me hesitant. I felt like I would not understand how to read it.
I feel like this is a easy fun read. Nothing crazy amazing about it. The art is beautiful, and I find it fun.
