I LOVED this book and plan to buy it for the teen girls in my life. I highly recommend it. This is a wonderful coming of age story about a teen girl that uses a wheelchair as she prepares to graduate high school and go to college. Effie works through many of the emotions that come with big life transitions while (literally) navigating the complexity of our ableist culture and systems. The story was enlightening, and I especially loved the internal dialogue and the sweet relationships. Great job, Claire Forrest! Thank you for sharing your talents.

DID NOT FINISH: 30%

I think some young adult books aren't for me anymore
Nothing against the the story or characters! I just can't read about teenagers going through teenage things like I used to :(
I'm still glad I learned about some of the hardships disabled people have to go through when in school or in their day to day life, I had no idea!
If I read this 5 years ago, I might have appreciated it way more :)

My issue with this was plain and simple: the narrator. Her voice was annoying and it was irritating me too much lol I couldn't pay attention to anything else. Maybe I'll try reading this as an ebook someday in the future but as for the audiobook... no, thank you.

Oh I loved this book BAD. I've drifted away from YA the last couple years but am buddy reading this for disability pride month and I was not disappointed!!! Genuinely a great book with extremely compelling characters who felt like real people. Would def recommend.

I love that this book covers the sweet and hard moments of friendship, romance, and growing up, while also shedding a light on the lack of accessibility in the world. I loved watched Effie learning to advocate for herself, and I think this is a wonderful book for teens to learn from or see themselves in.

Educators: this is a very clean read — some very light mentions of sexuality and a couple of kisses

this book was incredibly heartwarming and brought to light accessibility issues that I am privileged to not have to consider as frequently as someone who isn’t a wheelchair user. I like how the ending is ambiguous in not going further into discussion of Effie’s relationships after prom because whatever happens next can’t wait. I liked the live in the moment rather than the future approach as I felt its something I refer to in the future too! All around, it was so heartwarming seeing Effie work around relationships and advocate for herself!!

this was such a heartwarming YA story! i really liked Effie and her coming-of-age story; getting to see her figure out and go after what she wanted was really satisfying. the relationship between Effie and her family was great, as well as her friendships and the romance. i would've loved to see some more stakes (I feel like the SF vs NYC debate was resolved too simply, and also there wasn't really a third act conflict?), but overall, the story was enjoyable and so important!
