"The cave was silent. Then Charlie picked up the instrument and played a simple but breathtaking melody. The skeptical looks on the boys’ faces disappeared as Charlie continued playing, lost in the music, and ending with a long and haunting note."

I can't explain how bad I love this book, not as much as I loved the Outsiders but its close. I don't know why I love this book, it might be the fact these are teenagers living their lives having fun in a strict school and having a teacher who cares deeply about each and one of these boys

“I stand on my desk to remind myself that we must constantly force ourselves to look at things differently. The world looks different from up here. If you don’t believe it, stand up here and try it. All of you. Take turns.” is a quote from Mr. Keatings I really liked, the way he spoke made me feel inspired

“Gather ye rosebuds while ye may, Old time is still a flying: And this same flower that smiles today, Tomorrow will be dying.” Lastly a quote said by him as well I thought I'd share

Got a hold of this before i realized it was based on the movie. and wow do i notice. i wouldnt get half of the book if i hadnt seen the movie.
the descriptions are super weird and fast paced. some stuff happen in one sentence and suddendly we're in an another scene and you have no idea how you ended up there. some scenes were edited from the movie, some removed and some added thats only in the book.
theres a scene in the movie where todd and neil runs around in their dorm, todd trying to get his text back from neil and their friends join them. i think its a nice scene that basically shows that theyre all good friends and their communtiy. that scene wasnt only removed, it was edited so that a completely different scene plays out. and its like this for other scenes too. WHY you may wonder, and so do i. the movie got great reviews and is seen like one of the best (not to me, its still worth watching though), so WHY would you change it if the book is supoosed to be based off of the movie?
You know what scene they added in the book instead that wasnt in the movie? The boys are taking an exam, and to "prepare" for college, mr Keating shows them slides of naked girls. like what. why was that scene necessary to add. it basically added onto all the misogyny that already existed in the book. none of the very few women in this book is treated like an actual human. Keating you deserved to be fired he is actually crazy in this book compared to the movie.
also because of the writing being weirdly paced, a lot of the characters actions seems weird and sudden. like someone tells todd (SPOILER) neil is dead and he IMMEDIATELY freaks out and screams and throws up in the bathroom in ONE sentence.
i couldve read this in one sitting because its only 165 pages but because reasons explained i read like 30 pages early this year and the rest today and yesterday because this was not enjoyable. it was still readable though, so if youre a huge fan of dps (unlike me), im sure youll love this.

Hat vollkommen den hype verdient

neil perry you will always be loved

hmmm i like the movie, I like the DPS vibe and the whole carpe diem ordeal and pretentiousness, but it's so obvious that the book was written after the movie was filmed? it is a word for word copy, and consequently doesn't offer the vivid scenary visually portrayed in the DPS movie, or even anything else instead of that.
