THIS is a book of SEASONS; there's the SPRING of passion, dreams, and new-found interests that breed life in the womb of the soul that nourishes the body, the SUMMER of teenage infatuation, the AUTUMN of bereavement, control, deceit, an attempted murder of the heart, and at last, the WINTER of death.
The book ends with the winter but still manages to hint at the advent of spring.
It's about the lamp the burns in a storm, it's about a seed that grows from the ground, it's about the clouds that rain snow but eventually give way to sunlight dressed as a maiden, and about the teardrop that makes the cheek glow despite the pain it carries and symbolizes.
BUT, this surely doesn't fall under the "Better than the movie" category.

This might be the one time I thought the movie was better than the book. It might be because of Robin Williams but I did not feel the despair that Neil went through in the book as much as you felt it in the movie. Either way, it was good read.
One reads poetry because he is a member of the human race, and the human race is filled with passion! Medicine, law, banking - these are necessary to sustain life. But poetry, romance, love, beauty? These are what we stay alive for
Sad ending, kids were a bunch of wimps for getting me jesting out. Ending was heartwarming though. NEIL TODD AND CHARLIE YALL DESERVE THE WORLD. MR KEATING TOO

In this particular case I'd say just watch the movie. I didn't realise initially that the movie came first. So naturally that explains why it didn't add any depth in the way books usually do.
