This is my second time reading and it was just as enjoyable as the first.

I love the world building and all the characters were so charming. (even though the adults in this book were really frustrating)

"Keep wildness in your wits and magic in your fingertips."
this was such a charming, magical debut! Cordelia is so fun to root for; she's so bright and curious and headstrong and fiercely loyal. the relationships she cultivates and her actions really make the story what it is! looking forward to book 2!

I was lucky enough to win this lovely ARC in a giveaway recently. This is a whimsical middle grade story set in an alternate London where some families make magical clothing items for the royal family and others. These families are bitter rivals which is one conflict in this book. Cordelia Hatmaker is the main character and not only must she help her family make a peace hat to help avoid war with France but her father is presumed dead after an accident at sea.
The details sprinkled throughout the book about the magical hat making was wonderful. I did figure out some of the plot points early on, but I also know I am not the target audience for the book. Overall, I enjoyed reading this book and look forward to reading more by this author in the future.
