Ever Cursed

Just too slow, I feel like things could have been happening faster and that things could have been explained better.
I might pick it up again to read another time though, it might just be my mood that I’m not to into it right now

I honestly picked it up bc the cover art is gorgeous. But it was the perfect leave-your-mind behind book filled with magic, princesses, and witches; that still made you think about the world we live in. What more do you want? ❤️

"I suppose that's true. Even when there was magic. Always. It was a king's kingdom, and we all suffer for it."
Wow this book is crazy. The analogy between this book and the world right now is HEART breaking. Women must suffer more than men even in death. "Change is slow. We are patient." Yes change for rape culture is slow. Women are patient most of all. But their friends and families ARE NOT. Which explains so much about revenge and the curse. I love that it was so fast paced!!! Great stand-alone. This book has trigger warnings and will more likely make you uncomfortable. I enjoyed the protagonist (Jane) and antagonist (Reagan, the witch) POV. You find out what unrest/unhappiness in a kingdom truly is. Thank you so much for this ARC from Simon & Schuster!

3 stars for the first half; the second half was almost incomprehensible and the ending was cheesy as all hell

3 stars… how fitting that i finished this on international women’s day? i’m so proud of the characters in this book and their growth throughout the story

Definitely check the content warnings before picking up this book. The plot involves sexual assault and things that may be upsetting for those who deal with disordered eating.

I definitely got emotional as we learned more about what exactly was happening in this kingdom, and I liked the idea in the ending. The basis of the plot was strong but sadly lacking in its execution.

The quest to break the curse winds up on the back burner and then becomes completely irrelevant. Well really the whole curse is irrelevant because it was meant to hurt the King, and he doesn't care in the slightest.

There were a few weird moments between the witch and a townsman that I think was meant to be a romance but was so vague I wasn't sure.

What I really wanted was some strong sister moments between our cursed princesses, and we didn't really get any. I did like the moments between our two POV characters, though.

All in all, it had a strong premise and the possibility of an amazing emotional story, but just missed the mark for me.

This is an important book that more people need to read. It is not full of action or sword fights or endless magic. The magic is heartbreaking and the action is internal and slow and emotional. But do not be deterred based on the overall rating of the book on this site, I almost was, it is an important read for the time we are living in.
