The third--and final?--book in Hale's delightful Princess Academy series finds things getting a bit more serious as war is looming. And just when Miri thinks she can finally go home (and get officially betrothed to her love interest), the king commands her to go tutor up a trio of royal cousins and get them ready to be potential brides for the king of the country threatening war. When she arrives, things are more dire than she ever could have expected--the girls live alone, in a swamp in the middle of nowhere, and spend their days hunting for food (there is a super sweet alligator-wrestling scene). Plus there are some nefarious things going on in the town. Miri is the best, though, and deals with all this moooooostly ably. The three new girls are great, too, as are all the returning characters. And when a big secret is revealed, I just about jumped out of my chair. Hale really has a way with plot! And her writing is great too--these books are just really charming. I am now determined to buy the set for a little girl of my acquaintance. A/A-.

Wow! Great last book to wrap up a truly amazing trilogy. I give my best wishes to Miri and Peder and good luck to Sus, Felissa, and Astrid.
fast-paced
Loved, loved this! It's been a while since I read either of the first two books, so I was a little worried about picking up with this one. But fortunately, there is not a need to remember details about minor characters or a lot of the politics. This book does a nice job of bringing you quickly up to speed and introducing some wonderful new characters. I loved this story and where it went and how it ended - wonderful!
I really liked seeing Miri in a situation that was even more out of her comfort zone than the city was. She grew a lot, as did the sisters. Great addition to the series!
This was a fast read and I did quite enjoy the end of the Princess Academy series (there is potential for a spin-off series, so we can only hope ;-) ).
First of all, it is well set-up so if you haven't read Princess Academy or Palace of Stone in a while, you won't be left wanting. You can pick up the third book and be good to go. If you haven't read those two books, I would recommend doing so before picking up this third one :-).
After the events of Palace of Stone, Miri is ready to return to her beloved Mount Eskel. But on the day that she was to leave, she was asked to report to the king and given the task to go to start a princess academy of her own with some of the king's cousins in preparation for a marriage alliance. And so, Miri finds herself living in a swamp with three "wild" girls who know nothing of the palace, royalty or an oncoming war.
Miri continues to grow throughout the book and that was a pleasure to see. I enjoy the characters of Astrid, Felissa and Sus and felt they were a nice addition. At times the story seemed a little flat (some of the characters could have been a little more developed) and the plot seemed more like checkpoints on a list, but I still enjoyed the story and felt like it rounded off Miri's story rather nicely.

Hale's sequels do not go downhill, friends. Miri's third adventure is at least as good as the first.
I thought this was the best book of the Princess Academy Series and loved it! Will definitely reread it.
