Friends to lovers, he falls first, dual POV STEM romance, with mental illness rep and a badass girl friend group. I think the FMC’s anxiety was handled in a respect and accurate way. But genuinely, the amount of miscommunication needed to advance this plot for almost 350 pages is just too high for me. I know that some of this is anxiety logic, which felt accurate, but some of it just made Harper seem so dense and made me frustrated with her. But overall, I loved the banter and the way it tackles sexism and internalized ableism.

The description of anxiety here is deft and complicated, and the understanding of grief is compelling, but the reliance on repetitious cohesion and separation made the tension feel somewhat truncated. Did I guess the ending— yes, did it make it less satisfying to read it at the end— not really, I was still glad to see these two end up together! it felt pretty well earned.

I thoroughly enjoyed this debut novel by Mazey Eddings. We have two POV(Harper and Dan) that I felt flowed nicely. Both have experienced  tragedy and loss (although very different from each other). Both will eventually realize their need to face it through therapy. The novel opens with their meeting by chance (or rather by collision) and then takes us through a budding relationship that faces challenges. What I loved about this story is a strong, smart female lead in STEM that struggles with anxiety and trauma. She was real and imperfect and the author's description of anxiety disorder was authentic and vulnerable. The supporting characters were fun and likeable, although a couple of times I wanted to tell them to stop pushing Harper and understand her better. It's a good depiction of how those with anxiety struggle even within their safe friend groups however. I'll be anxiously awaiting Mazey's next book and recommend this debut.
Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the ARC and opportunity to provide an honest review.
